The French government is developing new digital tools, such as MOOCs and other innovative contents, to reduce inequalities and improve access to higher education as well as students’ success. Although many online resources have already been produced these past ten years, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research aims at increasing high-level online courses for French students and students worldwide.

On January 16th, the French platform France Digital University started offering its first eight MOOCs. About thirty MOOCs will be available by this spring on France Digital University, to which 100,000 people have already registered.

The MOOCs offered cover multiple disciplines such as Management, Law, Digital technologies, International affairs, Sciences, Social Sciences and the Humanities. Among the most popular ones are: “From Manager to Leader” developed by the CNAM (National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts), “Philosophy and Lifestyles” developed by University Paris Ouest and “Espace Mondial” developed by Sciences Po Paris.

In addition to the 15 million Euros already dedicated to this initiative by the French government, a public-private partnership will enable an additional funding of five million Euros to develop MOOCs aiming at vocational training.

Along with the launch of the first MOOCs, the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research organized a “MOOCAMP” in Paris on January 11TH. Over a hundred students, teachers, researchers and start-up representatives worked in teams, designing MOOCs. At the end of the “MOOCAMP”, a jury selected three projects which will be offered on the France Digital University platform. This successful initiative is expected to be renewed.
